We are a group of ten friends that call ourselves the Chocolate Cake Design Collective. We found an old Toys Warehouse in Detroit and decided to turn it into our design studio. Keep checking our blog to see what shenanigans we've been up to.

Belle Isle Project Update

06.18.12

We’re almost there! We’ve manage to cut, sew and dye in the past couple of weeks. We will be hanging “Summer Breeze” this week for the opening this Saturday June 23rd. Check the fb event page for more details. CCDC will be having a BBQ on the beach near our installation to celebrate, so come on out to eat and party with us!

Angela Michell visits us at the studio and teaches us proper dye techniques.

We presoak all the fabric and hang them to dry to prevent future shrinkage

We prep all the fabric before dyeing by sewing the ends to create a loop for the rope to go through.

We had three sewing machines running at a time.

Ironing the ends to make the sewing easier.

Pinning crew prepped the fabric for the sewing crew.

The last rinse of the night — the most vibrant red.

The full color gradient hangs to dry.
